FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical advice and expert tips to help you feel confident at every step of your property journey.

What is a contract review?

Before you sign, make sure you know exactly what you're buying.

Our contract review identifies key risks, explains the fine print in plain English, and confirms the contract reflects the property you inspected. We meet with you online to walk you through everything and answer your questions.

Why do I need a lawyer to review my contract?

A property lawyer doesn't just review the contract—they help identify risks, explain the legal and practical implications, and negotiate changes to better protect your interests.

While conveyancers can also review contracts, a property lawyer may be able to assist with broader legal issues that can affect your property, finances or future plans.

How long does a contract review take?

Most contract reviews are completed within 24–48 hours. Urgent reviews can be completed within hours.

Can you negotiate changes to the contract for me?

Yes. We can negotiate with the vendor's solicitor.

Do you offer fixed-fee contract reviews?

Yes. Yes. Our fee for reviewing a standard Contract of Sale is a fixed $499. Additional fees may apply for complex transactions, including off-the-plan purchases. When you engage us for your conveyancing, we include up to three contract reviews at no additional cost and help you determine the best time to review the contract.

What kinds of property do you provide contract reviews for?

Residential, Commercial, Torrens, Strata, Off Plan and Company Title property.

Do you provide interstate contract reviews?

Can Do Conveyancing is licensed in NSW and Queensland. For property transactions in other states, we can refer you to one of our trusted independent conveyancers.

When should you get the contract reviewed?

Before you exchange, get the contract reviewed!

The best time to review a contract is before you commit.

After a conditional exchange, your ability to negotiate changes becomes more limited.

After contracts are exchanged unconditionally, the terms are generally locked in and cannot be changed.

For private treaty purchases, you can usually wait until your offer has been accepted before arranging a contract review.

For auction purchases, all due diligence must be completed before the auction, including the contract review. We recommend having the contract reviewed at least a week before the auction although tighter timeframes may apply in a competitive market or in a contract race.
